Chocolate Banana Bites

So with Spring in full mode and the end of the school year approaching quickly {May 30th for us}, I have been brainstorming and searching around for some super quick, healthy and fun snacks and treat for the kids {okay, who I am I kidding, myself also}.  I happen to stumble upon this great banana treat from Pop Sugar and thought two things…..WOW, those look so pretty and how cool what a great idea.  Well we have bananas in the house ALL the time and are adding them to smoothies, packing them in the backpack for a hike, just grabbing them for a quick snack, so why not try these cute creations?

I followed the recipe given in the Pop Sugar link, with a few changes and here is as follows:

  • 5 medium ripe bananas
  • 1 tbsp. all natural creamy peanut butter
  • 2 oz. nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt

My version

  • Fage Total 0 unsweetened Greek yogurt
  • Splash of Almond Milk {unsweetened 0 sugar}
  • Natural creamy peanut butter
  • Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa

I added all the ingredients together and mixed with a spoon, the splash of Almond milk helped keep it creamy {but if you use, go easy, ONLY a splash is enough}.  The same went for the Ghirardelli chocolate, not too much. The rest is pretty easy, just slice the bananas and spoon on the mixture then sandwich together.

Now, my version is not even half as beautiful as the one in Pop Sugar, but that’s okay because the kids will still love them and I have had one already, they taste great.  I have just enough time to freeze them before school is out 🙂

Since I will find any excuse to eat chocolate {and the unsweetened cocoa is zero sugar} I just had to add my cutie oranges to this yummy recipe and really make it a treat!

Are you getting ready for kid’s snacks? Have you been thinking how you are going to keep them eating healthy this summer without going for the “fast food” and processed/packaged stuff?

    I’ve seen this recipe before and thought it looked great but somehow your addition of chocolate has made it a must do! **typed as I peel a banana**
