Running Thoughts and Wedgies

Another “Runner’s Thoughts”  blog post.  Why? Well because when I did this a few weeks ago, it seemed to have been a hit and was fun.  I just laid it all out there and shared what went through my head while running.  If you have been so kind enough to follow and read my ramblings, I must thank you .  If you have been following along with me via facebook, twitter and here, then you know that I have been getting myself {mind and body} ready for my very first half marathon.

I know, I know.  I have gotten advice and wisdom from MANY of you wonderful runners out there and it seems that the most popular of advice is to “just have fun” and “don’t worry about your time”.  Well, if you knew me personally, then you would know that I am goal setter and goal getter.  I raise my personal bar very high and I expect {sometimes} too much from myself.  I also have a wicked/fierce competitive streak.  Let’s get to the point of the post shall we?

Thoughts in this runner’s head recently …

  • I am really getting the hang of this
  • Wow I feel amazing lately
  • I must be looking great, I have been running enough, my form is awesome
  • Wait, did I just look like that in the window?
  • I wonder if people think I am spazzing out since I am smiling while running
  • I love this song, I can’t help but smile
  • How many times have I said this …. Update your playlist Lynda!
  • These damn leggings keep sliding down my waist
  • I wish I had worn my other running pants
  • Seriously why can’t my pants stay put on my waist, they have no problem staying around the butt
  • Is my butt jiggling when I run?
  • Let’s see, if I can get 6 miles under my belt, how hard will 13 be?
  • I can’t wait to have my first 13.1 sticker
  • 13 miles hmm, I can totally pull that off come race day right?

  • We are having some crazy hot weather
  • No one else is out running this late in the day, you look like you are nuts
  • Where is the shade?  Why are there not enough trees out here, this is Sonoma for crying out loud
  • I see some construction going on, I wonder if they are watering anything, I could just jump in front of a hose
  • What?  Look at this, someone is watering their front lawn YAY water
  • That fence is totally low enough for me to quickly jump over and get wet
  • No one will notice, if anything they would feel for me….right?

  • Oh that felt great, I can run another few miles blocks now
  • I know this wedgie sucks, but don’t you dare stop!
  • Suck it up and keep going
  • Okay go ahead and fix it while no one is around, but keep moving at the same time
  • That damn bug, get away from my head {waving my arms everywhere}
  • Oh no nice lady in car, “I am fine”.  “Just had a bee flying around my head”.
  • See what happens when living in a small town
  • I guess that’s a good thing, people are helpful
  • I wonder if I stopped and dropped right here and now, if someone would notice
  • I need to apply more chap stick
  • Damn bug just stuck to my lip {thanks chap stick}
  • What is up with this wedgie today?  Really!!??
  • I wonder if other gals jump up and down in front of a mirror to test their running bras
  • Am I weird?
  • No I can’t be, there are other weirdos out there.
  • Runners are always thinking crazy stuff right?  It keeps us busy
  • Wow that was awesome, I completed 4 miles today!
  • The house is not far from here, I can totally do this
  • I can’t wait to get in the door and pee
  • Crap, I left from my car not the house
  • The car is parked across town, so are the keys
  • Lynda!!!

I had asked the other day on my facebook page about thoughts that some of you runner’s had … here are some randoms

  • Worried about farting
  • Finding a dead body
  • Getting abducted
  • Leaving a stove on
  • Looking lopsided while running

  1. hahahaha did you get your car back? My thoughts when running revolve around constantly scanning my body for any sign of injury (especially after this year) and also cursing the head wind that is constant and from all directions in Chicago. I don’t know how, but it is.

  2. Haha, I actually had the exact same thought while running the other day…”If I can do 6 miles, how hard can 13.1 be?”. I’m anxious to increase my mileage just so I can prove to myself that it’s possible! Very funny post, love it 🙂

  3. Haha I enjoyed this immensely! Most of the time I’m thinking about my to do list when I’m running which is not great. Sometimes I wish could zone out more. Other times I find my mind wandering down memory lane or thinking about the future. Something that’s very difficult for me is just staying in the moment!

  4. Lynda! I couldn’t comment on your about me so I am here 🙂 wow you are such a beautiful being inside and out. I love and agree with so much of your mindsets, “heart is the home of the kitchen” “don’t use the word diet” I could go on! You seem like such an awesome role model for your kids and I think it’s incredible you’re teaming for a half marathon! Glad I found your blog <3 stay happy and healthy 🙂

  5. I’m pretty sure everyone who saw me running yesterday afternoon in the 82 degree, 100% humidity thought I was crazy. I try to do long summer runs around golf courses, they’re usually good for a few sprinklers! Training for Myrtle Beach Mini in October eventually, between cycles now (yay). Wish I was running a ZOOMA this year, but it didn’t fit the schedule 🙁

  6. Heehee. Man I HATE the days whatever I’m wearing doesn’t cooperate. There’s nothing worse than shorts that ride up my hips or leggings that slip down or a bra that just won’t sit comfortably or ear buds that keep slipping out. Ugh…

  9. Freaking awesome post!!! I have always thought about putting together a runners thoughts post. I think about when I am running but then I always forget about some of the random thoughts that I have. Sometimes I think I have the most brilliant ideas when I run!

  10. Ha these were hilarious! And so true about running pants that slide down…those are the worst! And then once you notice that they keep sliding down that’s all you think about for the rest of the run!

  11. lol love these posts. There is a lot going through my mind when I’m running and it is hot out! I also stop by some sprinklers when I see them 😉 The best is dipping your toes in a river (if you have one locally) after a hot run..ahhh feels so good!

    OK you would try to scare it. Then kick it if it grabbed your leg.

  13. Too funny! I usually run on my lunch break and can only concentrate on two things:
    1) How hungry I am
    2) Trying not to pee my pants while running because returning to the office to get my gym bag from my desk would be really embarrassing if I was covered in pee.

  14. Why am I doing this – I am too old for this crap. Ouch …. am I running with a limp – OO EM GEE! Ok ok let me run by coach real fast so he doesn’t shout me out – stay under the radar since I want to chill this run. Yeah these are some of my weird thought while running.

  22. Love your list! I think I may have been tempted to hop the fence too. I have problems with gnats sticking to my sweaty face. Sounds gross but it never fails if I run by the river during the summer, that or they try to fly up my nose. I must look ridiculous to people since I am constantly doing the swatting fly dance!

  24. Hahaha, this was funny and sounds like what goes on in my brain 🙂 I’m running Zooma Annapolis in a few weeks (and a fellow ambassador)…was planning on the half but have been dealing with a calf injury so may bump down to the 10K, not sure yet!

  25. Ha! This is great 🙂 I should write my running thoughts down after tomorrow’s run. Running really does bring the most random things to mind!

    I just ran a half last weekend and am training for a 10k in mid-June. They have a jogging stroller division in the 10k and I am excited to race with my son riding along 🙂

    • I wish I could just run, but my mind is all over the place. I love seeing moms on 5ks and 10ks with strollers. Our daughter is 12 now and runs those with me. She loves it and I cry because it is so awesome 🙂

  26. This list is so funny and so real. I must try to remember what goes through my mind tomorrow when I am on my run. Currently training for my first official 10K on July 4. I am no good in the heat, but I am running in honor of my nephew who was KIA in Afghanistan on July 4, 2013. Even if I have to crawl, roll or be carried across the finish line I am doing this race for him!

  27. Hahaha! Great list. I run too. Last week, the club I run with celebrated an anniversary and somebody made a video of everyone running past. Wish I hadn’t seen myself running! Gah! 🙂

  29. Love this Lynda! We think a lot of the same things. And what is it about some of the running tights not being able to stay up? If I run by myself I always think about being abducted. Too much Law and Order SVU. I’m going to make a mental note of my thoughts during my run today. Maybe a follow up post to yours 🙂

  31. I have so many of the same thoughts when I’m running! I started with 5k’s, then did a 10k, then said what’s 13.1? and now I’ve ran a marathon! Keep going! That 13.1 sticker will make you so proud!!! Keep up the great work!

    Seriously, why do I do this
    If I quit now I can get home, make coffee and breakfast
    Did I pee my pants, no just sweat, phew
    Ok now I’m really going to pee my pants
    I need a haircut
    No really, this ponytail is disgusting, and stuck to my back by sweat

  34. I love this!!! I am a baby runner (goal is a whole 13.1 this summer/fall as well) and I have lots of these thoughts when running so it makes me feel SOOO good that I am not alone. I have a HUGE problem with running pants sliding down and doing a run/pull wiggle down the road!

  36. LOVE THIS! You are hilarious and remind me of myself. I’m sure you’ve heard that too many times to count. I’ve run in quite a few races and love it! When I ran my marathon, my sister and I made a list of people that we were running for that have been influential in our lives. She made her own list and I made mine. So…since there’s 26 miles in a marathon, we gave each person their own mile, choosing 26 people. During that mile, we would look at the name and it would be a little push for us to keep going. It was AWESOME. We typed the names up on a small piece of paper that could fit between our ipod and our upper arm as we ran. We laminated it too. In your case, you could choose 13 people. When we saw the selected people after our run, we could tell them they helped us with mile 7 or whatever. They thought it was funny. Just a thought to keep you pumped!!!

  37. I have the opposite problem. Pants stay on my waist and fall off my butt.
    I spend a lot of time on my runs thinking, if I just had a butt this would be way easier.
