Let’s Run July Challenge

It’s July and I am in the mood to challenge myself … guess what that means?  Yep, I am going to share the challenge, keep track of it AND invite you {or challenge you} to join me.  I have just recently completed my first half marathon and I am not done.  Nope, I got the bug and I am taking on more.  Don’t get me wrong, I still love the mud runs, color runs and 10k’s, as I enjoy doing those with our daughter.  But this mamma runner is putting her big girl running gear on and getting it done.


I am currently training for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon {October 19th} in San Francisco.  I know, I have plenty of time right?  Wrong!  I need to get my body in the best running shape I can.  That half marathon will include hills and ups and downs that I am NOT used to running.  Better to be prepared and really ready than not.


This brings me to my Let’s Run July Challenge.  I am so inspired by so many “running bloggers” out there and just runners in general.  Watching and following all of really motivates me to keep going and push further to reach new goals.  I Running.

I know we all have our gadgets and techy items we love using for running.  I am a huge fan of the Nike + Run App and use if for every run.  It is super easy to use, to read {without glasses} and from what I can tell pretty darn accurate.

For the entire month of July, I plan on running as many days as possible each week.  My goal I am shooting for is 5 to 6 days per week.  I am going to find some hills here in my area and start working on taking them on {slowly}.  I am not in a hurry nor I am going to expect to be some super speed runner {I can’t do speed running, I pee my pants} sorry TMI.  The goal of this month is to keep myself {and hopefully you} motivated to get up each day and move.  No matter what excuse comes into my head, I will get myself out the door.

Some days might be a short 2 or 3 miles, some may be more.  The goal for myself is 70 miles this month.  If I can complete more than that,  I will treat myself to something nice {the new Athleta catalog just came out }.  My love for running hit me years {years} ago, in my twenties and early thirties.  Now I am so excited to be taking up this sport again in my late forties and taking into my fifties {just a quick three years from now.  I am super jazzed to be sharing this with you and I am really looking forward to you joining me this month.  What can WE complete together in July?  Let’s find out, shall we?

  4. Hooray, Lynda! Congrats on catching the running bug 🙂 There is something magical about the 13.1 distance for me too. I like that you have to train for it and it feels like a real accomplishment but the recovery time is much shorter than a full marathon.

    Yes, I’m in for “Run July”! I use the Nike app too and will do most of the runs on the treadmill since school is out. I’ll also share this blog post on my FB page.

    I just recently signed up for a very hilly 23K locally. This means lots of time on the trails – with lots of hills.

  6. Good for you!! I’m in! I run 3 days a week. Any more than that and things hurt. I like to crosstrain on the other days. I use the Nike plus watch which also syncs with the Nike App. Feel free to friend me on there too!

    I`am up for the challenge..I do not have the speed as yet but thru focused breathing my endurance level is good (work in progress). I love what u said about falling in love with something new. To me running i find has become a challenge which i greatly welcome.back home o/g from southern ca recently relocated to Northern ca i would walk mt rubidox before starting my shift with the goal of being able to run it..now just maybe when i go home to visit i will pay good old mt ruby a visit knowing i can do just that

  8. I so need a running challenge! I decided my summer goal would be to improve my 5k time, but I’m struggling with the accountability (it’s hot outside!). I can’t wait to read how your training goes… I’ve been to San Francisco once and the hills were rough walking around. You’ll be in great shape by the time your half rolls around!   9. I will definitely be challenging myself as well this month and love knowing others are doing the same. I just signed up to run the Dionysus 5K which will be a first for me. I am very new to running and am also in my late 40’s so it’s been a slow start. I currently run outside, every other day and just ran my first 2 miles straight yesterday. I’ve been using the JogLog Couch to 5K program and really like it. I will also check out the Nike+ App and compare the two. Thanks for inspiring me!

  10. Love that you are running the Nike Women’s Half, that is fantastic! I am eyeballing some 5k’s coming up, right now its getting finances squared away so I can do them! I definitely plan on running as much as I can in July, I use Endomondo & Runkeeper as my main trackers, and recently added CharityMiles on to the roster as well. The miles you run or walk get converted and donated to charities! I prefer to run outside, but if I must use a treadmill (at Planet Fitness) then I will. It’s just so much prettier outside!
