The 100 Percent Mom

100 Percent Mom

Being a mom is the most rewarding yet most thankless jobs ever {am I right}?  Come on, we know it.  Whether we are stay at home moms, or working moms, it is a job that requires us to be 100% all the time.  Okay let’s back up ….

When I say the 100% comment, I don’t mean we need to be perfect.  Obviously we are NOT.  However, we sure put a lot of pressure on us to be the best moms we can be OR be the better mom than “that” one {you know, the mom who just seems like she has all her shit together ducks in a row}.

I am very type A and very organized.  I take so much pride in having structure and routine and a very clean house.  Sure the beds are made many mornings before the kids even leave for school and yes I sweep the front porch at 6:00 a.m. when I go out to feed the cats.  I am going to be like the old lady you seen in her bathrobe out on the curb sweeping the leaves away from her house {I just know it}.  But no matter how “organized”or what type of personality we are, things don’t always go according to a plan … do they?

Some things that might happen in a day of being a mom {even to the most organized of us} …

Maybe you happen to run out of laundry soap and you really don’t want to get dressed and jump in the car to drive out and pick some up.  You just want to get that load started now …. SO you try using the shampoo from the shower instead {and sit and watch the machine go through the cycle to make sure you did not break it using the wrong soap}.

Maybe you started to wash the dog in the tub, forgetting that you had sprayed bath cleaner and bleach all over and it to let it sit before cleaning, then realized you had forgotten to get back to it.

Maybe you get a call from one of your children 40 mins after school was out, reminding you it was a short day and you forgot about them.

Maybe you try to feed your kids Ezekiel bread in place of their wheat bread when making french toast in hopes that they won’t notice …. because you want to feed them a bit healthier only to have them totally bust you.

Maybe the “dog” did it when you shredded up a homework assignment by accident while cleaning out the work area.

Maybe you did forget to put the date of that birthday party on the calendar and realized it had happened the weekend before, but you did not say anything.

Maybe you just didn’t want to buy that ice cream and have it in the house at that moment because you were just feeling “fat” and “bloated”, so you told them the store sold out of it.

Maybe you did wash the white jersey with the pink socks and you “have no idea why there is light pink stained on it”.  It must have been there from the last person who had it.

Maybe you go to “google” when you are asked a question starting with “why does” …. instead of just taking the time to explain your version of the answer yourself.

Maybe the watermelon you just bought at the market happens to roll out of the car when you open the door and splatters all over the ground.  {The melon that you need in the next 20 mins for your child’s team}.

Maybe you tell them “dad did it”  when you happen to erase their favorite movie from the DVR.  {By the way,  being able to tell the smallest of white lies every so often is a prerequisite for being a parent}.

Being 100% “on it” all the time is just not possible and when the hiccups happen …. well, we just roll with them and hopefully stop and laugh and take a moment to see who we are.  We are just moms, trying to run our empires {homes, family} as smoothly as possible.
