When Mom Gets the Flu

Well I was on a roll last week, the weather here in Northern California has been amazing.  Perfect for running, walking.  I have been killing it in my Pure Barre classes and sticking to a great routine.  That’s it right there, ROUTINE … I knew things were going to well.

Miss Faith arrives home from school not feeling well.  Great, let’s get this taken care of quickly, let’s nip this in the bud.  Rest, rest soup, Ginger Ale and Tylenol.  We got this.  Noooo, we don’t.  Four days later, things are not looking up.  A visit to the doctor some antibiotics and more rest.  Seven days of sleeping and resting.  Okay moms, we know the drill, this is NOT our first rodeo showdown with a nasty bug.  Heck no.  We just need to  keep the house clean and as germ free as possible.  All the while telling ourselves we are NOT catching this.  We can’t, we need to run the house, go to work, stay active.  We are way too healthy, no way could we get this.

This happened …

When this mom gets sick …

Everything comes to a screeching halt
I become needy
I cry, then laugh, then cry {fever makes me delirious}
I swear my body has been run over by a truck {or some kind of heavy piece of equipment}
I don’t mind that the bed has now become “short sheeted” while sleeping in it {too lazy and wiped out to fix it}
I am needy
I cry for my mom {fever has me again}
I don’t want to be alone
I need my hubby and kids to visit and sit with me
I want everyone to be quiet and leave me alone
I’m cold
I’m hot
I go days without washing my hair and don’t even care {days}

I want to look like this …

I start eating canned soup
I find myself sleeping on saltine cracker crumbs and just don’t care
I tell my family how much I love them that they better miss me when I am gone
I have convinced myself that God is calling for me
I start telling my hubby where to find certain things in the house {so when I am gone, he knows}
I sob

I really feel like this …

I drink hot consume and reminisce about my grandmother {consume is a fave for the elderly}
I feel as if  I am an elderly
I drink way too much tea
I call my hubby from the phone upstairs while in bed for random everything
I watch all the DVR programs we have saved just because and then spoil alert
I sleep
I can’t sleep
I am a miserable sick mom …

Hoping to be better soon, how long can this last?  Tell me, please {I am needy right now}.

Are you a good “sick mom” OR a pansy like myself?
Do you just throw in the towel OR fight right through it.
Do you have any good remedies for the flu?
When was the last time you caught a bug from the kids?

  6. Aww, it’s definitely not your fault! The flu is especially bad this year, and the trend seems to be more general fatigue/overall-crappy-feeling vs. high fevers and the like. <3 I hope you feel better soon! Get lots of rest and keep up with the fluids! You should be feeling at least a little better in a couple days! <3

  7. Give yourself a break! If you don’t lay around then you will just be sick longer. We all need to chill out and take a sick day once in a while. Positive thoughts being sen your way!

  8. I hope you feel better soon! It’s so true that sometimes we would wish the day would not start so we can stay in bed! 🙂 You’re exercising so it should not last long!

  9. Oh man I’m so sorry. I came down with the flu over Christmas and it was terrible. I live alone so I had no one to help me get anything! But the worst if it was over after about 4-5 days. Then I could function normally again. I tried a bunch of home remedies like eating raw garlic and apple cider vinegar but I don’t think they really helped!!

  10. Well, I hope you feel better soon! I know how it is to have the whole household thrown off schedule…but my kids love it because it usually means unlimited TV for them, lol. I’m pretty needy too when I’m sick, but you know, it’s nice to have someone look after US once in a while; enjoy at least that part while it lasts!

  11. I don’t have kids but definitely can relate to that sick feeling at times when I’ve been under the weather. Especially the canned soup part. Normally I won’t eat it but when sick, bring on the canned soup and Mrs. Grass soup in a box!

    I hope you are feeling better!

  12. Oh been there. The entire family got the flu over Christmas break. My parents got it, then I got it. The only saving grace was my first recovery day was my mom’s second recovery day. She could still take care of me. 29 years old on Christmas day and I still wanted my mom to take care of me.
