#whatslovely FOOD

Happy Thursday everyone.  Today is day four of #whatslovely and it is FOOD day.  Where do I even begin with this one?  I am not going to get all technical and talk “food science” with you.  I am NOT a registered dietician or nutritionist, I am just a gal who happens to LOVE food {and a great glass of wine}.  Not only am I so spoiled living in California and am surrounded by the most amazing produce, fruits and veggies … I happen to live smack dab in the center of the wine country and the possibilities are endless around here when it comes to food.

#whatslovely FOOD

This does not mean that I just go banana crazy and eat whatever, whenever.  Sure I have many favorite foods that I wish I could eat everyday, however I know I need to take into consideration what I am eating, how often and how much.

What are the benefits we can get from eating healthy, being smart and yet still enjoy our food?

We can wake up in the morning and feel pretty awesome.
We have more energy.
We can have younger looking skin.
We can eliminate the muffin top.
We can slip into a pair of jeans instead of trying to cram ourselves into them.
We enjoy swimsuit shopping.
We can keep up with our kids.
We smile more.
We are happier.
We have less trips to the doctor’s office.
We have a bit more self confidence.
We actually enjoy exercise.
WE JUST FEEL FABULOUS

Here are just a small sampling of some of my favorites that we love to make …

Spicy Shrimp
Strawberry Fields Salad
Fall Fritatta
Lime Cilantro Chicken Tacos
Tossed Jicama with Grilled Shrimp

You can find more recipes under the From The Kitchen tab here on the blog.

Do you track every calorie and monitor your food intake?
Do you just enjoy food and regulate what you eat along with your exercise routine?
Do you just have days or nights when you really splurge on something?
Do you use fresh ingredients when preparing your meals?

  1. Oh those lime cilantro tacos! Yum! I’m not a tracker. I eat and enjoy food and on occasion I splurge. I just make sure it’s followed with some extra cardio. I’d rather exercise harder and longer and not deprive myself of certain foods. Everything in moderation though.

    • Yep, I agree Amanda…I want to eat. So I guess that means just get off my bootie and get it done so I can enjoy 🙂 Everything in moderation {unless it is really good cheese} I have a huge addiction to cheese LOL Thanks for sharing

  4. Wow all those recipes sound bomb! Especially the tossed jicama with shrimp, LOVE JICAMA.

Also thanks for listing out the benefits of eating well. At times I feel like we think about food in terms of in the moment enjoyment+physical shape and forget to think about how it makes us less hangry and more enjoyable as a person.

  5. My family has always been about using fresh ingredients when possible. It really makes a taste difference. Years ago I had a dedicated notebook to tracking calories and carbs and fat but I don’t do that anymore. I just try to eat a lot of fruits veggies and lean meats. When I want something that doesn’t fall into that category I just have it. But now instead of over indulging by buying a box of cookies something like that I just eat one. That way I ate what I wanted to but I didn’t over indulge. It just works for me these days! Those chicken tacos look great. Anytime I can add cilantro to something I’m happy.

    • Love it Ginger. I agree, tracking everything is way too much. We have kids in the house still and of course they have their “goodies” and if tempted, I will try to distract my mind from wanting the chips and cookies OR like you said just have one 🙂

The tacos are so good, I hope you have a chance to try them out.

  6. I vacillate between eating great and eating really bad. Unfortunately, I have a difficult time staying in the middle. I always feel great when I eat well, both physically and mentally. There is an undeniable pull I feel that leads me in a bad direction though.

  7. I don’t track every bite I take. I think I would go crazy. As far as I’m concerned life is too short to monitor every single thing that goes in your mouth. With that said, Moderation is key!! I’m not sure I would be very good at moderation living in Wine Country however 😉

  8. Food makes my world go round! <3! I don't track my calories or monitor my food intake, although I did when I was training for a competition and had great results! I keep telling myself it'd be awesome to get back into it, but thus far…have not done it yet. I mostly just try to eat healthy throughout the week and then have a cheat meal/day (usually on the weekend <3 ).

  9. This is actually a very timely post for me! In fact I was just talking to my mom earlier today, and we were both talking on how we need to make sure we are eating smarter and healthier. We have the tendancy to do great for a while and then get off track, maybe mother like daughter, LOL
But I keep getting minor injuries and pains and I really think it might be from not eating the best, this is one of my goals going forward! I don’t track my calories too much, but I do try to portion control.

  10. I like to use My Fitness Pal to keep track of my food. I find that if I know I’m going to be accountable for what I eat I make better decisions.

  11. Thanks for sharing this great recipes! And I’m not a tracker. I find that if I try to track that I just get stressed out and worry way to much about what I’m eating. I just try to eat healthy and stay away from the sugar!
