Easter Recap in Wine Country

Easter was this past weekend and we finally had some rain here in Northern California.  I know most of us tend to want a warm sunny day for the egg hunt, but I have to say that being outdoors with rain boots on and racing to find eggs while dodging raindrops was rather fun.   To recap the day …

I set my alarm the night before to make sure I would rise up for an early morning Easter run.  I just really wanted to be out that morning and embrace the peacefulness and reflect on things. I was not disappointed, the town of Sonoma was so quiet at 7:00 a.m. and the sky was a light gray as the rain was on its way.  The smell in the air was that of an early fall morning, you know right before a storm is to come.  My running was on task and breathing it all in was magical.  The kids were sleeping when I left and I whispered to my hubby goodbye and Happy Easter all in one breath before heading out {also reminding him to not let the kids go downstairs until I returned}, the bunny had come after all.

Easter brunch was our traditional {my grandmothers recipe} Monte Cristo Sandwiches.  These are always on the menu every Easter holiday and since they are once a year, we never tire of them.  Fresh berries from a local patch and homemade belgium waffles {with whipped cream} were another choice.  {Did I mention I went running that morning}?

The table was set and the “Peeps” were there to add the color.  {Sadly, they were tossed once we were done}.

The rain had started and after filling our tummies full of food, it was perfect time to head out and work it all off.

It was a wonderful day and relaxing.  The kids had a great time, the food was amazing, the mimosas were flowing and Stryker {our dog} was very content.

Some time for chatting with the Lord and an afternoon nap was how this mom wrapped up her day.  Feeling very humbled and blessed.

How was your Easter?
Do you hunt for eggs indoors or outside?

Do you do both hard boiled and plastic?
Is there a favorite family recipe you make for that day?

  4. You took me on a peaceful, yet exhilarating run! I love quiet mornings outdoors. And there is nothing better than a light rain and smell of freshness in the air. I’m a lover of Monte Cristo sandwiches. Now I’m going to have to make some!

My blog post is on our Easter recap, as well. It is one of my favorite times of the year. Visiting from Mama Kat’s.

  5. I love all the garden pics. Lovely. My answer to all your end questions is generally, “No.” Though we were actually home visiting family in Indiana near Easter this year & my sister made a family meal including her traditional Easter cinnamon tea ring.
