Embracing Summer Vacation

I know we have been out of school for about two weeks, but it took this long to feel that we are officially into summer.  The confirmation from the hotel came through my email to confirm our reservation,  I then realized we REALLY were into summer AND we are going away!  So happy to be looking forward to something new, because it is not always possible or easy to get away during summer break.  We are more a “stay cation” type of family.

Summer vacation how I love you …

Lazy days
Kids sleeping in
Backyard dinners
Pool toys

Beach trips
Blowing bubbles
Bike rides
Super early morning runs {don’t have to wait to take kids to school}
Evening runs
Bathing suits {permanent article of clothing}
Beach towels
Sun dresses
Tank tops
Tanned skin
Smell of sun screen
No alarm clocks
No schedule
Dinners with friends and family
Baseball games {kids}
Football camp starts
Fresh cut veggies and fruit
Ice cream cones
Road trip
Flip flops

Summer is here alright and we are going to soak in every moment of it.

Do you “stay cation”?
Do you travel from home by car or plane?
Are you a camping family or a “glamping” family?
Do you plan months ahead of time or just wing it?

  1. Hi Lynda!

    I know what you mean. When your home is an oasis getting to take time off to enjoy it can be the best vacation ever! We’re spreading our wings a bit this Summer in the Southwest.

    • I know, we keep the home so cozy and comfy. The kids have so many options here and friends it is hard to get away. Our son had OCD and suffers from anxiety, so getting away anywhere is usually difficult. I am so looking forward to our trip and I hope he enjoys it 🙂
      Thanks Lisa

  4. Wow you all get out of school really early. We still have another week of school! My daughter’s graduation is this week and then we head to Hawaii. When the kids were young I always wanted them to be in school and now I just want them around 🙂 Enjoy your summer

  5. If I had a pool in the backyard, I would definitely have a staycation. We usually head to the beach, but I’d much rather float in a backyard pool. Some day….

    • Oh no doubt, for sure Kathryn. If we had our own pool, I don’t think I would ever want to really take the kids and go anywhere else. Good thing we can use our family pool, which is not far from the house {thanks to grandma and grandpa}.

  6. Living in Florida, makes me feel like I am always on summer break. Thanks for sharing some of these fun ideas. Staycations can be fun, but only if there isn’t any cleaning that needs to be done.

    • Audrey, I am sure you always feel like you are on vacation no doubt and you have the Florida Keys also. Napa and Sonoma are actually very popular and famous for travelers, but we would still love to get away and change up our scenery. 🙂

  7. I love this post, but I’m still shocked its summer! How did that happen? The year is just flying by. I will be heading out to Napa in July for a short vaycay, any restaurants recommendations?

    • Yountville has some amazing restaurants. Up valley has some good ones. You really can’t go wrong if you stick with that area. We really don’t eat in Napa much so not super familiar with the downtown food.

  8. Summer vacation?! What’s that?? LOL! I completely forgot and kinda miss it! HOWEVER I do not miss being in school, AT ALL!

  9. Summer vacay so seems much shorter now than when I was a kid. We go back in the middle of August instead of after Labor Day. It makes for a really hot start of the school year for the kids. Looking forward to the summer movies coming out 🙂
