Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon

Running season is upon us and I  love it.  I have a bucket list of races {half marathons} I am wanting to get done this year one of them was  is the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon.  For the most obvious reason, the race ends right here in Sonoma on the plaza literally just blocks away from our house.  This is one of those races that opens for registration and instantly sells out, so getting myself a spot has been pretty much impossible and I just assumed it might never happen for me.  Someone in the race heavens must have been listening to me, I was contacted by Destination Races and invited to run this particular half marathon.  I had to pinch myself and read the email again {insert happy dance}.

Napa to Sonoma Half

I don’t have much time to get ready since race day is July 19th.  However, I am just two weeks off from my last half marathon so I am hoping to be good to go as long as I keep training up to race day.  The only struggle this time would be the hills.  This course is beautiful but has some pretty intense hills.   If you have done this particular half marathon then you know just how cool the entire weekend is set up.  Dinners, wine, parties, festivities, wine, gorgeous scenery, beautiful location, great route with hills and views, and wine.

If you are new to the race {like myself} then check out what is going on …

Options of “race extras” to add to your experience …

Friday night welcome reception at Cuvaison Winery
Morning Vinyasa at Madrone Estate Vineyard Winery

Yoga Cuvaison Winery
Pre-race dinner at Artesa Winery
Race day packet pick up
Post race wine tour
Awards Ceremony
Wine and Music Festival {Sonoma Plaza}

The race extra options are all available for purchase separate from your race entry.

Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon

Not into running the half marathon, then check out the GunBun Fun Run 5k.  This race has three separate start times and is still available with some openings left.  You start at the beautiful Gundlach Bundschu winery and end at the Sonoma Plaza.

Post-race refueling tent is available to runners once race is completed.  You will have a variety of post-race food and beverages designed to help your body start the recovery process.

There is a 3 hour and 30 minute time limit on this course.  After that the course will be open without road control.

Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon

I am so looking forward to FINALLY running the race route that is right here at home.  I can’t wait to be a part of an exciting weekend and hopefully have a chance to connect with you fellow runners out here visiting.

  1. I love Sonoma! Such a beautiful city, I wish I could spend more time there enjoying all the food and wine. That race sounds fantastic!

I do have a running bucket list, however I don’t have the travel budget to support it, not yet anyways. And I hate hills but I’m trying to grow to love them, since I live in Oregon and they are hard to avoid.

  2. I know I have to stick with the Bay Area or local wine country runs for now until my budget allows me to travel for running…I wish 🙂 I am sure you have some amazing races in Oregon Margaret. The hills kill me and my hip flexors, but lot’s of foam rolling is to be done

  5. I LOVE Sonoma!! This year, August 23, will be the 3rd time I’ve run The Santa Rosa Half Marathon but NOW I want to run The Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon! Maybe next year!! Santa Rosa is a very flat race but I do enjoy running hills. The SLO Half Marathon was a fun sort of hilly race. I will look forward to your Napa to Sonoma recap!! Have a great race!!

  8. This race sounds amazing! I love the idea of the post-race wine tour. There’s a local 5K near us that starts and ends on a vineyard and has a post race dinner & wine event. I feel like that makes the race more enjoyable knowing you’ve got some tasty wine afterward!
