Finding My Word For 2016

With Christmas behind us and things back in order, I find myself a bit more quiet and with that comes the thoughts of what my word for 2016 would be.  Not that I am just now thinking of this.  I have been bouncing words around in my mind and searching my heart for the one that would resonate with me the most.  It is difficult to come up with just one word {I tend to mix two together}, but a word that could fit and at the same time have more than one meaning.

A laundry list of words come to mind …

Empower and the list goes on.   It finally came to me, the word that just makes sense for myself and my soul.  I have an entire year to live with this word and I am confident it is exactly the right one.  I like to think this word actually found me …

*The quality of being patient
*The ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay

This is a great guiding word for myself.  I struggle with being patient.  I tend to move quickly and think quickly, this leads me to speak quickly.  Without patience, life can be somewhat exhausting because you are constantly wound up or annoyed.  My word can have me slow down, be a bit more tolerant, have more composure.  I might not be so hard on myself if practicing more patience daily.  Life is going to happen and although we might be able to control try to control its outcome, we pretty much can’t.  Having patience is living each day just letting life happen.  Some days will be slow, frustrating, give us anxiety, have us rushing, we might be annoyed.  Look around {really look}, doesn’t it seem as though people are a bit on edge lately?  Isn’t everyone in a hurry?  We all want everything right now?  Is it just me?  Do you see it?  If we are meant to meet a deadline or acquire a tangible, get that call or text back, receive that email, have that package finally delivered, then those things will happen, we just need to have patience.  Slow down, it’s okay.

I believe {truly believe} in my heart that all things do come full circle.  We do receive what we need or what we are meant to have.  It takes time and we need to embrace that and have patience.  I know my relationship with God gives me much insight to this.  I ask all the time for guidance, while thanking him for what he has blessed me with.  I know he will no doubt help me with this and show me a way to Patience.

The saying “Good things come to those who wait”.  Exactly

Take some time and search for your word.  Make a list, do the words mean something?  Are they connected to anything?  I am looking forward to 2016 and I plan to approach it with patience.

*Taking deep breaths
*Laugh a lot
*Enjoy my naps
*Smile every day
*Have faith

  3. I think we could all use a little patience. It’s so easy to get caught up in the social media instant gratification world. Slowing down is actually really refreshing at this point! 🙂

  6. Patience is a great one! I actually thought about using it, myself but i’ve found another word that I’m using. I still need to work on patience though so it’ll be in my mind all year, too. Maybe as a runner up word.

  9. Ooooohhh NOOO! My worst word EVER! I’m rubbish at being patient lol. I wish you all the very, VERY best with owning this one in 2016. I know I couldn’t do it 😀

  10. Patience is definitely something I’m beverly lacking. I’ve always said that it’s one of my biggest faults. I try to exercise it all the time but come up short.

  11. What a great post and word for 2016 🙂 I have found that I have always been a patient person, but with a growing toddler and a baby on the way, my patience has been running thin lately…but I think it’s all because I’m not efficiently spending my time in the right places. So, my word for 2016 is TIME – using it wisely and putting it where it truly counts.

  12. I love this post! And that’s a great word to guide your year. I struggle with patience and it’s something that I really need to work on as well. 🙂

  13. Patience is certainly something we can each work on. I do believe that the words find us. That has happened to me over the past two years and even when I tried to take another word, I found myself being called back to the first word.

  14. Patience is not my strong suit and it’s something I really need to work on in the new year. Great word!

    Happy New Year,

  15. Love the Joyce Meyers quote. I have picked a word in the past. Actually had the same one for the last 2 years…mindful. So far nothing is feeling right to me. If it doesn’t come to me, then I will just keep using my mantras. I am ok with it. Definitely not something I want to force. Here’s to your patient year.

  16. Absolutely love this post! Patience is something everyone needs in life, yet it is probably the largest struggle that most people have. I completely agree with you that society always seems to be in such a hurry. I personally try my hardest to slow down and enjoy the little things and to live in the moment rather than focusing on the next “big” thing. One of my favorite quotes is “We can’t predict the future, nor can we change the past, all we can do is appreciate the present and live in the moment.” Thanks so much for sharing this inspiring post and I hope you have a wonderful 2016!
