The Ultimate Coffee Date December

Good morning and welcome to another Ultimate Coffee Date.  Happy December everyone.  Another year is coming to an end and I am taking time this month to reflect, but before I begin …

If you are here for your first time, welcome.  Make sure you visit my co-hosts Coco and Deborah during the weekend.  Share the #UltimateCoffeeDate.  Comments are always appreciated and enjoyed, we love getting to know everyone and we love seeing familiar faces.

Have I been a good person, wife, mother?
Have I accomplished the goals I set forth for the year?
Have I been compassionate towards others?
Have I been humble?
Have I carried myself with grace?
Have I given?Have I learned from my mistakes?
Have I failed and tried again?
Have I loved and accepted myself?

The answer to these is yes, I believe so.  Each year gets easier to just tell myself to step back and look around.  Take each day in and embrace it.  Be a good servant to God.  Slow down and breathe.  Relax and take time to enjoy life and every day.  Be okay to stop and start over.

While having coffee, I would share with you my new site.  Well hopefully you have been here before and notice my new look.  I guess I could call this my face lift {without the surgery}.  I am loving the new me and I could not be happier with how it all came together.

While having coffee, I would share with you my love for candles and coffee mugs.  These make for great Christmas/holiday gifts and I have listed some of my favorites here.

While having coffee, I would share with you the truth about the last month and  a half.  I had to back out from my last half marathon and I have not been keeping up on my running because of health.  A bit of a scare had affected my training and continued routine, so I had stopped.  Once tests had been completed and good news from the doctor was established, I have been able to slowly get myself back into the game.  I was not pleased with myself for giving up and quitting, but after reflecting on it, I knew I had no other choice.  I am very grateful to be healthy and okay, I am so excited to get back to a regular running routine again.  I want to tackle 2016 with a good attitude and motivation.

While having coffee, I would share with you some of my winter favorites.

Long cozy socks
Hot coffee with Cashew Milk {I am now loving that in place of Almond Milk}
Candles {mostly white ones}
Hydrangeas {white}
Cashmere sweaters
Bailey’s and Almond Milk
Yogurt covered pretzel flats covered with peppermint {find these at your local Whole Foods Market} Seriously, find them!

Adele’s new album {yes yes and yes}
White lights on the Christmas tree
Weekend holiday moving watching

While having coffee, I would share with you  that although my running had taken a back seat.  I did manage to run the Napa Valley Turkey Trot for the third year in a row {since it started}.  That was one run I was not going to pass up on, it is a favorite tradition to keep with our daughter.  She always makes is across the finish line before me and she is always waiting right there with her medal around her neck and a huge smile on her face.

While having coffee, I would share with you  this time of year can bring out the best or worst in people.  We have no idea what others are going through, we don’t know their stories.  The holiday season can be very difficult for many to get through and remembering to be kind to one another is so important.  Slow down, take time, don’t always be in a rush.  Have grace and be humble.

Drink, eat and be merry.
Have hot cocoa with marshmallows
Snuggle with the kids
Read stories
Go for walks
String popcorn for the tree
Sing Christmas songs
Make homemade gifts
Play games

  1. I love the idea of asking yourself these two questions:

    Have I been humble?
    Have I carried myself with grace?

    I feel like I would get a lot of introspection about those two each month. I try my best to live that way but I know we all have moments where we fall short of God’s amazing grace.

    (and I absolutely adore the people who give me candles at Christmas! That is the best gift ever)

    • Ashley, yes I thought more about that after writing them. Good for reflecting on all the time. I can never have enough candles. My mother in law knows they are on the top of my favorite wish list and she always spoils me with many. Thank you for having coffee today 🙂

  2. I collect mugs! But I only drink tea. We have a few mugs that are just for my husband because he drinks coffee.

    My breakfast this morning is smores overnight oats. Which is sort of hot chocolate with marshmallows & oatmeal!

    • I love tea and drink it often Judy. I really only have a cup {maybe two} of coffee in the morning, but tea later in the day or evening. I keep trying to avoid any more mugs, but I can’t help myself, there are always so many great ones out there.
      Thank you for having coffee “tea” this morning 🙂

  3. I also love candles! My house smells like so many different things on the weekends due to different candles burning 🙂 I love your holiday “slow down and enjoy” list – so many of these are important to keep sane this time of the year!

    • I try sticking with unscented so I can have more around. However, I hear you Lindsey about the scents, too many can be quite overwhelming. I tend to go soft floral in the bedroom/bathroom and more fresh/clean in the kitchen and living area. 🙂
      So glad to see you today for coffee

  4. I love the new look!! I’m craving one too but it’s at the bottom of my “To Do” list!! I totally want to get rid of all my boring Crate and Barrel mugs and start a mug collection! There are always so many fun ones I see.. Plus they are awesome conversation starters… might need to be a goal of mine in 2015 🙂

    • Thank you Laura. I had to finally just get this done, it was on my to do list also, and kept creeping up on me. I am happy to have it completed before the new year. I have some Crate and Barrel mugs around also. There are too many other cute options out there for sure. I laugh at myself every time I go to purchase another one.
      Thank you for coffee again this weekend 🙂

  6. Beautiful post and yes, I like the new face lift! Glad to hear you are doing well. I have been thru some cardiac testing this month and I am waiting on the last of the results myself. I may end up altering my training a little when it is all said and done but that is ok 🙂 Love the winter favorites, enjoy!

    • I hope all will be okay Mary Beth. Altering our routine and training is just part of life I guess. Nothing to complain about though as long as we can keep at it, right?
      Happy to hear you like the new look and my winter favorites. Thank you for having coffee this weekend 🙂 enjoy

  7. Great reminders for the whole year, not just at Christmas. I’m glad your health scare is over and hope you are feeling better. I probably could not be trusted with a bag of candy cane pretzel flats. I know running with your daughter is very special. I’m missing a half marathon today that I typically do with my oldest son.

    • Thank you. I am so glad everything is okay with me also. I am not trusted at all with those darn pretzels, they are trouble {LOL}. So glad they are limited edition and hoping they will be gone after this month. I can’t stay away from those darn things. Hopefully you can do another half with your son again soon.
      Thank you for having coffee this weekend 🙂

  8. I love the look of the blog. Some thought provoking content in here, too! I also love cashmere sweaters, although it hasn’t actually been all that cold here yet. Frost on the ground this morning but relatively warm during the days. Enjoy your December!

    • Thanks Kelli. I have a confession to make, I buy my cashmere sweaters at Marshalls. I was in one a few times and was so excited to find them there at such great prices! We are finally chilly out, but we need rain this season badly. Enjoy your weekend.

  12. Glad to hear your health issues were not too serious.
    I try not to put too much pressure on myself this time of year. It is so hectic anyway, I try not to add additional parties, and baking and too much decorating.
    Thanks for the great reminders (and the link up!)
