Winter Hydrating With HINT Water

Just because the weather outside is cold does not mean we can’t get dehydrated.  Are you up to speed on Winter Dehydration?

Cold weather can make the bodies thirst response diminish {this can be up to 40% even when we are hydrating}.  Why?  The blood vessels constrict when our bodies are cold, preventing blood flowing freely to extremities.  {When our fingers and toes start to tingle or feel numb}.  By drawing more blood to the core, this will enable the body to conserve heat.  When this happens, our body thinks it is okay and properly hydrated {we don’t feel as thirsty, the body is fooled}.

Think about it, are you less likely to drink water during winter?  Snowboarding, skiing, sledding, running, ice skating, working out.  Whatever you activities are during the winter months, you still need to hydrate {in fact even more so}.  Read about Cold -Induced Diuresis.

Layers help conserve our body heat, however the body is working harder and therefore causing sweat = contributing to fluid loss.  Dehydration can cause exhaustion, muscle fatigue, cramping, dizziness and even loss of coordination.  We can become more susceptible to colds and flu.  Water is a great way to help keep some of the extra weight off {we have heard this before}.  When we are hydrated, the body is better able to break down fat for energy, our appetite is better controlled {I know that is true for me}, think about it … Are we “really” hungry or just really thirsty?

Should be talk about caffeine and alcohol?  These are diuretics, so having extra water intake will help balance out the water loss by drinking those.  What about your water based foods?  Fruits and vegetables are amazing sources of water, combined with vitamins and minerals.  What about that sodium?  Those salty foods will make us excessively thirsty {not to mention have us bloating}.

Fruits and vegetables are a natural source of water, along with valuable vitamins and minerals.  Soups too, of course!

Glowing skin, hydrating is huge for keeping our skin looking healthy and young.  I know that is one major reason I drink water all day long {just to help my own aging skin}.

I have an easy fix and answer to your winter hydrating.  Have you tried HINT Water yet?  Full disclosure … We drink HINT all the time.  We take it with us everywhere and it is always in the house.  The kids love it, the husband loves it. *I am an affiliate with HINT water and an ambassador*
