Grocery Outlet Napa Valley

Big news!  Grocery Outlet has arrived and has a new home in the Napa Valley.  I will be totally honest with you, I have never stepped foot in a {GO} before and was invited to visit this new one.  I was immediately intrigued and had to go check it out.  I had questions because I really didn’t understand the concept, was it a warehouse or did you need a membership?  Were you to buy items in bulk?

Not at all, in fact just the opposite.  Grocery Outlet is not a warehouse and no you do not have to buy in bulk.  Just a regular grocery store with lower prices.  The  Napa Valley location is large and open with all the items and products placed neatly and easy to see and find.  I was greeted by friendly staff and walked through the doors with my eyes wide open and my mouth humming the words under my breath “wow”.  I just stood and circled my head around the entire store, as if I were a child walking into a huge toy or candy shop.  Colors everywhere, shelves filled with so many familiar products that I normally shop for at my regular market.  I had no idea and had not expected this.

I was so excited and could not wait to get started down the aisles.  Grocery Outlet prices everything at such a great discount on name brand products that are 50-70% cheaper than a traditional grocery store.   I was so happy to see familiar name brands such as Kraft, Kellogg’s, Tide, Tyson, Amy’s Kitchen, Naked Juice, Blue Diamond, Gevalia, Kashi, Silk, EO Essentials, Nature’s Gate, Alba and many more.  Along with names brands I had not heard of.  Assortment of wines, cheeses, desserts, bread, snack items, produce and more.  This store has pretty much everything even for household and yard.  Because of their purchasing model, Grocery Outlet is able to bring savings to all of us.  Overstock and excess products and/or products with packaging changes are offered at discounts and passed on to the customer.  Everything is 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

About NOSH …{Natural, Organic, Specialty, Healthy}

2016-04-21 22.54.38

Today most of us want to eat and live as healthy as we can.  Over the past few years, Grocery Outlet has been growing its NOSH program and requires that every store dedicates a section to NOSH items.  These are easily found by the signage placed throughout the store next to and near those products.  Healthy living and eating is so important to me and my family.  Creating wholesome meals at home, using the freshest ingredients possible helps us to stay healthy and happy.  I believe in getting comfortable in the kitchen and finding ways to be creative.  This is possible if you have great ingredients in the house.  I know life is full of “busy” and we tend to want to make meal time easy and quick.  It is SO possible if you just make it a habit.  Whether you are great at meal planning or a fly by the moment kind of mom like I am {I am horrible at meal planning}, you can turn breakfast, lunch and dinners into something you and the family can enjoy.

Here are some simple tips I can share that work for me …

  • Keep non perishable items stocked in the pantry
  • Go for healthy forms of non perishable items
  • Non -fat or low fat DOES not always mean it’s the best option {read the labels}
  • Keep food items that can be used in many different ways or recipes
  • Shop produce, fruit and vegetables enough for the week {too much over can cause to going bad and end up throwing away}
  • Keep fruit out on the counters in bowls
  • Avocados are a great staple to have in the house
  • Purchase protein and separate some for the refrigerator and some freezer
  • Organic is the favorable option, but seriously nothing wrong with the other {we are still alive and healthy}
  • Freeze fresh berries and lots of them {usually better budget friendly this way than pre-frozen}
  • Get familiar with cheese {yes cheese please} ditch the processed crap and go for the good stuff {Goat, aged cheddar, truffle gouda, triple cream, cambozola, feta} these are just a few of our favorites and you can do anything with cheese
  • Pasta is great for carb loading and we prefer whole grain or protein plus for the kids
  • Greens, a drawer full of greens always

Is Grocery Outlet a place we will be shopping in the future?  Yes, for sure.  I am really excited to have been introduced to this market and I can’t wait to take the kids.  They can check out the aisle and find great healthy snack and on the go items for their lunches or sports bags.  I came home with some great ingredients for a healthy dinner option.  Make sure you head back for the recipe.
