Summer Wrap Up and Kids Back to School

Oh my gosh!  Where and how do I even begin this?  I have taken a very long sabbatical from the blog world.  Here’s the deal,  summer was coming and I knew we had some vacations planned.  I was killing it at Pure Barre going pretty much six days a week and actually challenged myself to 30 days in a row {completed} while hitting over 300 classes.  I wanted to write and share updates on life and healthy living, the kids, food and all my Pure Barre badness, but instead just unplugged.  This mom needed a mental break from technology writing {Instagram doesn’t count as writing}.  Summer consisted of a nice ten days relaxing in Cabo San Lucas, water aerobics, stair running {that ended after the second, swimming with dolphins, snorkeling, and educating myself on how many ways to drink rum.

Spending a week in South Lake Tahoe was the way we wrapped up the summer.  My home away from home forever.  I can’t get enough of that place.  Kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking and poolside lounging {while again enjoying those rum drinks}.  Living life and enjoying every moment is my mantra.  Embracing the simplest moments is so important and I truly don’t think that we all really do that.  When was the last time you unplugged?  Moms, we need our down time and we do take advantage by getting to a workout class, heading to the salon, making time for a spa day, shopping, etc.  But we are still on the go right?  I mean that is not really considered unplugging.  I mean literally shutting it down, stepping away from the technology.  Why not?  What could go wrong?  Are we really missing anything that important?  How did we function before all of this?  We left messages on voice machines and checked them.  We knew how to manage and locate someone if there were an emergency.  We had actual conversations with one another using our voices not our fingers via a phone keyboard or computer.  Listen, I am not knocking technology.  I happen to love it.  Without it, I would never be able to record my favorite shows on DVR, I wouldn’t be able to shop with a click of the button and have something brought right to my door step, II wouldn’t be able to capture the moments with my kids and have them so easily accessible to watch over and over via the computer or t.v.

So summer has ended the kids are now back in school.  I am now at that stage where both are in high school and that means one pick up and on drop off all at the same time.  I have made it, all those years and I can see the light getting brighter.  I dropped them off and sent them on their way with an over zealous “I love you, have an awesome day you guys”, “so proud of you both”! with the response “love you too mom” under the breath of two most likely annoyed and embarrassed teenagers.

Every intention was for me to get dressed and head back to the barre after dropping them off.  My routine was going to get normal again and I was on a mission, my mind set was there, I was totally pumped up … YES it would be all about me each morning and I was ready!  Unfortunately my body had a different plan, the kids went back to school and this mom went back to bed.  I guess I still needed to stay unplugged for a while longer.

Happy back to school for all you moms out there and a huge thank you to all of your teachers.

  11. Wow, I am impressed with your capability to unplug for the entire summer. I’ve gotten pretty good about shutting down in the evenings, but I’ve still got a way to go before I’m unplugged for extended periods of time like that. How awesome to connect with your family and be there 100%!
