Cross Country My Heart Is Happy

When Miss Faith had decided to get out of the pool and hang up her swim fins two years ago, I was so bummed.  She just had the most natural way about her in the water and picked up on swimming as a competition right away.  Her butterfly stroke was AMAZE balls!  However, as kids will do, she just decided to stop that sport and give something else a try. I know, I know, we are to be nothing but supportive when it comes to our kids.  Don’t push them or force them into something that they will in turn end up hating or even resenting us for, but I can’t help it, I just loved going to swim meets and hanging out all day.  The water, the smell of the pool, the bags of towels and clothes, the locker rooms, the waiting in between events, the “cups of sodium”…  Read More…

San Francisco and Big Boat Regatta

One of the things that drives me the most nuts, is when kids hang out on their “electronics” for hours at a time.  I  know in our home, we have guidelines for that.  The kids can enjoy some “techy” time on their devices {no violent games allowed} and they are shut off after an allotted time.  I love trying to find activities for us to do as a family on the weekends.  Sure Sunday is set aside for football games and college games are Saturday’s, but as a mom who just loves to get her kids out and moving, I can’t help but gather us together and head out.  This past weekend was no exception.  The weather here in California is still amazing {hoping for a great winter as we need the rain}, and the wine country is pretty hot these days as we are into the “Indian Summer” months….  Read More…

Getting Away In Healdsburg

We are smack in the middle of summer and I don’t know about you, but this has been all about keeping busy right near our own home.  With baseball season going long this year and Noah starting football camp 4 weeks ago, it made it a bit difficult to get away.  Okay, we could have if we wanted to, but being in the playoffs was a big deal for us and Noah is starting is Freshman year this August and football camp is key {especially as a newbie}.  So, this means making the best of what is near by. That brings us to our most current get a way from home.  We went to visit Healdsburg, CA.  If you are not familiar with the area, it is about an hour and half north of Sonoma and just as quaint.  There is shopping, art galleries, food, bakeries, coffee and the Oakville…  Read More…

Have You Tried Surf Set?

I am always saying we need to “step out of our comfort zones and just try new things”.  Well I put my words to the test last month when I attended the Fit Approach  Summer Solstice  event at Sweat Republic  in San Francisco. The event was introducing a  Surf Set class.  When I saw that my fellow “sweat pink” gurus were putting this on, I had to attend.  I love my sweat pink sistas  and am always up for meeting them whenever possible. ♥ First thing first, I had to make sure my hubby got home from work early that afternoon so he could get me to the city on time.  It was Nascar weekend here in Sonoma, so the traffic was a bit of a challenge getting out of here and I knew the clock was ticking to get there in time, follow the GPS directions to the event and…  Read More…

Our Future Leader

Miss Faith is currently running for 7th grade rep at her middle school.  The speeches are to be given this Friday.  Let me recap our daughter and her goals quickly to get to my story… Faith is our only daughter, she is 12.  She is amazing, inspiring, smart, talented, compassionate, helpful, friendly, creative, organized, well liked, honest, hard working, stubborn, speaks her mind, stands up for herself, steps out of her comfort zone.  She is sarcastic, funny, loyal to a fault, an amazing friend.  She is trusting, caring, competitive, strong and has moxie.  {there is more, but you get it}. We have just returned from our very first CASL trip {California Association of Student Leaders}.  This trip is open to all leadership kids at the school, only this year it was also open to the yearbook students.  Yes Miss Faith is in yearbook {the 6th grader in a 7th/8th grade…  Read More…

Yountville, Ca….Have You Been There?

When I created my site and blog and named it Fitnessmomwinecountry  I knew it was the perfect name.  We live right here in the wine country and honestly could not be more blessed.  One of the great things about being a blogger from this area is that I can virtually take you around and show off some beautiful locations, share some good food, wine and just amazing sites.  Someone pinch me please, because there is not a day that I wake when I am not most grateful for being able to raise our children in such a wonderful place. Let’s go to Yountville, CA today, shall we? I had to have the Pumpkin Spice Latte and my first ever Espresso Macaroon…Oh and the dog treat for Stryker from Bouchon.  The macaroon was so sweet and wow, I had to share with my hubby..too much for one person I met this…  Read More…

My Proud Moment

Welcome to “Faith’s Corner“,   This is a category on my blog where our daughter will write, post and share whatever she feels like at the time.  I am sharing a paper she had to write for an assignment in one of her classes she was 8 years old when she did this event {she is in 6th grade}, the subject was “One Of Your Proudest Moments“.   “On your marks, get set, GO“!  When the buzzer went off I knew it was time to dive.  I dove off the block and into the water. The water was cold. I kicked my feet as hard as I could while doing the butterfly stroke, hearing the crowd around the pool, cheering all the swimmers on. I blocked out the sound and said to myself, “I can do it”. I came to the wall, turned then started my backstroke. I went fast, then…  Read More…

Dear Teacher, Meet Faith…

This week an assignment came home with Faith, we were to {in so many words} write about our child, letting her teacher know a bit about her. FROM MOM…Faith is amazing!  Not just because she is our daughter, she is just an awesome spirit and kind soul. She is caring and creates true friendships.  She is an incredible artist, she is a beautiful swimmer {4 years on the swim team}.  She is driven by her passions. She is competitive in a healthy way.  She is out-going, fearless and if something is scary to her, she is still willing to step out of her comfort zone and try. She loves food, she likes to run.  She is very creative. Her favorite snack is popcorn.  She is a lover of animals. She is able to speak her mind.  She is funny, witty and even sarcastic.  Anyone who has the chance to know…  Read More…

Those Moments…

One of my most fave moments in a day are the one’s when my children are being with themselves.   You know, that quiet time when the electronics are off, the t.v. is off, the bickering stops and it is just peaceful.  The house may not be together, the laundry is piled up either dirty waiting to be washed or clean and waiting to be put away, dishes are in the sink waiting for the transition to the machine, maybe the floors need cleaning.  But I have learned to stop and enjoy and embrace these moments. The house will be waiting for me, my children are growing fast every day.   We can live and enjoy life with what we have and know that family time is much more valuable than a new IPhone or Playstation. This day was one of those days.  Faith just creating {again} what was she creating?  A…  Read More…

Hike with the kids….what could go wrong?

What do the kids and I do when “hubby” has to work? We head out for a hike!  Normally, I don’t like to do hikes without having my husband around and this is for a few reasons. I tend to get lost sometimes I suffer from panic attacks I have been followed before while out running and approached by a stranger on more than one occasion {totally creepy} I like the security of having “back up” in case something goes wrong or we happen to fall and roll down a hill and can’t get up! My hubby is my best friend and puts up with my adventures♥ This hike was going to be “easy peasy” heck we were just heading over to Napa {a 13 min drive from the house} and to Westwood Park. How hard could this be? Cool views, and healthy snacks…. Different and winding paths everywhere {which way…  Read More…
