Napa Valley Turkey Trot 2015

What a wonderful November Saturday morning.  Miss Faith and I headed out to run our third Napa Valley Turkey Trot and as usual, we had a great time.  We started running this event its first year, and we are huge fans of this family 5k.  The Napa Valley College is home of the Turkey Trot and it is a great run.  The course is easy and nice with some incline and a bit of trail {not too much}.  You have the option of doing a 5k run/walk OR a 1 mile walk.  There is food, classic 50’s music {so fun} and entertainment. Last year’s event was a pretty wet and cold one as it just poured down rain.  This year the weather was amazing, the colors all around the Napa Valley are brilliant right now, and the air was just cool enough without feeling like we were going to be…  Read More…

Nike Women’s Half Marathon 2015

Running has been a daily steady routine for me the past few months.  After my last half marathon this past summer, I knew I had to get prepared for my next one, the Nike Women’s Half Marathon here in San Francisco.  This is a race that has been on my run “wish list” for a few years now and I had hoped to be one of the lucky “golden ticket” winners to get chosen via the lottery.  As luck would have it, I had been invited to run this amazing race via Nike and Six:02.  The Nike Women’s Half has been popular for years and it has an enormous amount of runners from all over traveling to San Francisco to attend.  With an expectation of over 30,000 runner’s this year,  I have no doubt this will be an experience of a lifetime. Nike is changing things up a bit this…  Read More…

Nike Training and Running Thoughts

I am a week away from the Nike Women’s Half Marathon.  My very first time running this popular and highly anticipated race.  I have run half marathons before, heck this will be my fifth one.  I have been training on and off for months, I have been taking Pure Barre classes religiously in order to help strengthen my core and legs.  So why on earth is the Nike so scary for me?  Is it because I will be spending an entire weekend attending activities and workouts prior to race day?  Is it because this race has an estimated 30,000 runners {not 3,000}?  Is it because I have no idea what to expect, as I have not headed to the city and checked out the route?  Is it because I know I am going to be taking on some major hills?  I can keep second guessing myself all week long and…  Read More…

The Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon is A Must Run

About two weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to run the Napa to Sonoma Wine CountryHalf Marathon and I could not have been more excited.  This race has been on my wish list for a few years and being invited as a blogger/runner was a huge thrill and honor for me.  Before I get into my own personal recap and experience, let me start by saying that Destination Races put together a MOST amazing weekend race event and holds nothing back.  I was very impressed with every detail {although I was not able to attend the pre-race dinner or the morning yoga because of other obligations} I enjoyed the perks of the VIP package. Let’s just start with Friday night.  A very intimate Welcome Reception was held at Cuvasion Winery which is the start place of the race.  The evening had wine, food samples and speeches from the race…  Read More…

Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon

Running season is upon us and I  love it.  I have a bucket list of races {half marathons} I am wanting to get done this year one of them was  is the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon.  For the most obvious reason, the race ends right here in Sonoma on the plaza literally just blocks away from our house.  This is one of those races that opens for registration and instantly sells out, so getting myself a spot has been pretty much impossible and I just assumed it might never happen for me.  Someone in the race heavens must have been listening to me, I was contacted by Destination Races and invited to run this particular half marathon.  I had to pinch myself and read the email again {insert happy dance}. I don’t have much time to get ready since race day is July 19th.  However, I am just two…  Read More…

Breathing While I Run … Mouth or Nose

Lately I have been much more focused on my running and breathing, more so than before.  Maybe because I am taking my running more seriously, I am really enjoying it and I want to make sure I have the right technique down.  After reading and researching, I realized that this topic is huge.  There is so much information out there on the right breathing, how to do it, the timing of it, the mouth or nose and so on.   I assumed I had it all “figured out” until I got deep into it.  Is it not hard enough to worry about our form, the swing of our arms, the steps {heel or toe}, the gait {are we over pronators or under pronators} maybe we are a neutral runner, that we must think about breathing also?  With all this involved it makes me wonder why even bother with such an exercise? …  Read More…
