Wrapping up November

It has been far too long since posting and I am always telling myself to get this done.   We are now on the first day of December and I need to wrap up November. Thanksgiving went off without a hitch, success again and another year of celebrating with friends (even new ones).  In fact I am so touched when I can actually come face to face with followers of  Fitnessmom who live in the area and it so happened that Thanksgiving was an event we were able to share with fellow fans and now close friends. Our home is the “Island of Misfit Toys”, the place where people come and join and share who either can’t be with family OR don’t have family like myself.   When my two sisters and mother had decided to end our relationship and dismiss me from the family, I knew that I was not going to let…  Read More…

Game On…Pre-Thanksgiving Day!

Well my day is finally coming to a slow and wow what an adventure I had.  Thanksgiving is MY holiday.  I am a complete control freak with this one.  I love to do all the cooking, the prepping, the cleaning.  I am not sure what it is about this holiday,  but my energy level kicks into high gear and it is a full on marathon.  Going to bed last night I had my game plan set.  It’s like going over the plays for the first half of a football game, then re-grouping and taking on the second half.  Little did I know that my morning would start off like this….. I decided to tackle the back patio area first.  The rain had cleared, and we were going to have sun today.  The patio needed a good hose down and I needed to pick up the dog “droppings” and get rid…  Read More…

Thirty Days To That Little Black Dress

Maybe it is my love for Audrey Hepburn and Breakfast at Tiffany’s which I have watched  a million times. OR, the fact that I am in awe of the late Coco Chanel, regardless of her reputation, she was brilliant and amazing. “The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.” ―    Coco Chanel “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” ―    Coco Chanel This intro brings me to this: We  know Thanksgiving is just a week away.  The thought of watching what we eat, staying on track, and still keeping up with a regimen sounds daunting.  But why on earth just because we have a holiday here, do we need to throw in the towel?  In fact, this is the PERFECT time to stay focussed (yes still enjoy ourselves, but be somewhat aware and smart about it).  This is my plan anyway. I start my…  Read More…

No More Bailey’s For Me…It’s Matcha Time

We are mid November and it starts, well for me and our home anyway.  No, I don’t start planning my “baking” days.  I do however, set the t.v. stations to the Music Channel, my Pandora Holiday list is up and playing, I have added the frosty blue lights to the kitchen bar area and have gathered some of my fav fall needs. Friday was a fun day hanging with the hubby and heading to Cost Plus World Market, you know I have mentioned in the past that I hate makeup shopping, well THIS IS my replacement store for that.  I could spend hours in this place and can we talk candles?  I never leave without at least two bags full.  In fact last holiday season the candle total was (well, let’s say up in the hundreds).  So candles are my fall/holiday MUST haves.  Sure I have them in the kitchen all…  Read More…

The Teacher That Has Gone MIA…

Oh my, this post is maybe more of me venting or just out of pure frustration.  The situation has my blood pressure up and ready to pull some hair out (not necessarily mine) LOL *just some humor*.  We have been trying for 4 days to reach our son’s teacher, YES FOUR! You know these days the schools are always telling us to “stay connected”, “we are here to help”, “use the school loop program”, “be involved”, “stay on top of things”, etc.  Okay I am on board, this all sounds awesome, we are going to work together as a team.  How hard can this be? Harder than I thought.  So our son is rolling right along in middle school with A’s and B’s, he is very kind and pays attention to detail and class and homework.  We are hands on parents since we are in the IEP program through our school system. …  Read More…

It’s A Nail Biter…

There are certain times in life that we all get excited and join together as a “unit”, the entire country comes together as one (even if we are rooting for the opposite team)  We have holidays, Superbowls, World Series, Olympics, and Election Night.  I don’t know what it is about this day, but there is a certain buzz in the air.  An excitement, a nervous energy, a mystery.  Election night is like a good book.  It can suck you in and make you happy, can make you scared, can even bring you tears of joy or sorrow and you don’t know how the book ends until the very last sentence. This election year is the real “nail biter”, talk about a photo finish.  This will be one for sure.  The hubby and I started our day heading straight to the designated polling place.  Walking in with our booklets already filled out so…  Read More…

Pretty Doughnut, Bad Doughnut

See the pretty colored doughnuts in the pic?  Well I am not posting this because I want us to go run out on this Saturday morning to the bakery! No, I want this to be a reminder that “holiday” season is pretty much at the door, and this means food, baked good, cocktails, etc. will be all around us.  In our homes at other’s homes. There will be sit-down meals, buffets, brunches. I can’t tell you how many times I have read an email from someone telling me that they are frustrated, over whelmed, sad, confused, or any feelings they are having because they have been in a situation where let’s say a family gathering, an office party, a celebration of some sort and food has been the main topic.  Let’s say that “Lynda” (just an example name) is at a family gathering and is really wanting to be smart with…  Read More…

Can We Talk BB Cream….Please?

Okay so I know this is not “fitness” related, however I have to go here.  For anyone who either knows me or has been following me for some time knows that I am the most simple and plain gal there is. Workout clothes, a good pair of jeans and a t-shirt, my Havaianas, TOMS, Asics, and rainboots.  Okay maybe a dress and a heel here and there.  But come on, I am pretty low maintenance.  Hair in a pony tail and well, when we get to the face and skin….whew that is a headache.  Listen I see my aesthetician every few months, I get my eyebrows waxed every 3 weeks and I do make a point of using my Rhonda Allison products, well because I have to see my aesthetician and she knows my skin (thanks Amber). But when it comes to applying makeup or even knowing what to buy or brand or even color matching…  Read More…

Roasted Cauliflower Soup

Okay so who does NOT like roasted cauliflower and garlic?  I came across the recipe and that was it, I was in heaven.  In fact, I think we have a head of cauliflower in the fridge every week.  This is the season to be roasting garlic.  That’s another recipe coming soon 🙂 1 large head of cauliflower, cut into florets (this should be about 8 -10 cups) 1 large onion, sliced 2 cloves fresh garlic 2 tbls EVOO 2 14.5 – ounce cans chicken broth (low sodium) 1 cup water 1 bay leaf 1 tsp snipped (fresh thyme) OR 1/4 tsp dried thyme, crushed 1 cup half and half OR 2% milk (less fat) pinch of sea salt (optional) pinch of ground black pepper Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees.  In your large roasting pan or baking pan combine the cauliflower, onion and garlic.  Drizzle with EVOO and gently toss to…  Read More…
