The Ultimate Coffee Date 2016 #6

Good morning and hello to a new month!  So here we are again, the first Saturday of the month and we are meeting for coffee.  I am so happy to be joining my co-hosts Deborah and Coco and I am so looking forward to catching up.  Let’s go with this first … I have taken a very much too long break from blogging as I have been taking time just living each day being “un-plugged” from the keyboard.  I have had many ideas in my mind about what I have wanted to write about and share with all you, however I just needed to get myself into the right frame of mind.  Blogging is not easy {I am no professional} when I do write, I want to be as authentic as possible and hopefully have you connect with me and really feel what I am sharing.  Okay, lets chat and…  Read More…

Easter Sunday, Reflecting and A Giant Peep

I have been waiting and wanting to find the time to sit and write again.  Since my last post, I have been able to pull myself together and I am happily back on track with life and my fitness routine. Yesterday morning had me waking before the husband and kids.  I waited patiently waiting for all of them to emerge from their beds.  Baskets were downstairs delivered from the “bunny”.   I found myself sitting quietly and enjoying a cup of coffee and reflecting at the same time.  It was going to be somewhat of a difficult day and some sadness would be in my heart.  I would be remembering my grandfather Benson {Easter was a favorite holiday of his} who passed on this day in 2011 at 95.  I would be thinking of my very large family and how sad it is that we are not close, regardless of what…  Read More…

Finding My Way As An Army Mom

When life hits a bump in the road and you feel as if God is giving you {yet once again} something more than you can handle, you stop and take the longest of breaths.  You literally stop.  At least that is what I have done.  Since hearing the official word from our son about his leaving for the Army Ranger program and actually seeing the paper work, the last few weeks has had me feeling as if the heaviest of loads has been suffocating me.  I can’t seem to function on all cylinders and it is crippling.  I am not used to this, I am normally very together, organized and timely.  On task with work {like my blogging} and my job at home.  The simplest of daily routines seem to be interrupted by the distraction in my mind.  Pure Barre class has me in a daze and not paying attention,…  Read More…

Finding The Right Christmas Tree

Christmas 2015 is here and one of my  favorite family traditions is getting bundled up and heading to the tree lot.  We used to do the tree farm until the kids started complaining about the long drive and hours of hiking around until we I found just the right tree.  So the tree lot it is.  Normally we head out in the evenings, or we wait until the husband’s birthday {next week}, but this past weekend had the family feeling excited and too antsy to wait. The “adventure” is pretty typical and almost predictable. I meander around the lot, ogling at all the trees and inhaling in the fresh scents.  I imagine being in the midst of some forest in Lake Tahoe, snow is falling and it is bitter cold.  I then open my eyes and see the gravel under my feet and watch the truck come through with another…  Read More…

Embracing Summer Vacation

I know we have been out of school for about two weeks, but it took this long to feel that we are officially into summer.  The confirmation from the hotel came through my email to confirm our reservation,  I then realized we REALLY were into summer AND we are going away!  So happy to be looking forward to something new, because it is not always possible or easy to get away during summer break.  We are more a “stay cation” type of family. Summer vacation how I love you … Lazy days Kids sleeping in Backyard dinners Sleepovers Swimming Pool toys Beach trips Blowing bubbles Movies Bike rides Super early morning runs {don’t have to wait to take kids to school} Evening runs Bathing suits {permanent article of clothing} Beach towels Linen Sun dresses Tank tops Tanned skin Smell of sun screen No alarm clocks No schedule Spontaneity Dinners with…  Read More…

Easter Recap in Wine Country

Easter was this past weekend and we finally had some rain here in Northern California.  I know most of us tend to want a warm sunny day for the egg hunt, but I have to say that being outdoors with rain boots on and racing to find eggs while dodging raindrops was rather fun.   To recap the day … I set my alarm the night before to make sure I would rise up for an early morning Easter run.  I just really wanted to be out that morning and embrace the peacefulness and reflect on things. I was not disappointed, the town of Sonoma was so quiet at 7:00 a.m. and the sky was a light gray as the rain was on its way.  The smell in the air was that of an early fall morning, you know right before a storm is to come.  My running was on task…  Read More…

Hello November

I loved waking this morning to the cool air coming through the window.  No rain today, but a fall chill with just the right amount of sun {California weather}.  It’s Sunday and the first weekend of November is here.  My favorite time of year is now starting.  We are done with October, Halloween is over.  In my mind, this is the start of Fall.  The kids are starting to sleep in a bit longer on the weekends, even the dog stays snuggled up.  I am taking in the quiet while lying in bed, because I know that once my feet hit the floor, it will be a very busy morning … I have plans and they include work and a to do list with the hubby. I don’t know if it is the time of year or what,  but moving a bit slower and taking more time to get things…  Read More…

San Francisco and Big Boat Regatta

One of the things that drives me the most nuts, is when kids hang out on their “electronics” for hours at a time.  I  know in our home, we have guidelines for that.  The kids can enjoy some “techy” time on their devices {no violent games allowed} and they are shut off after an allotted time.  I love trying to find activities for us to do as a family on the weekends.  Sure Sunday is set aside for football games and college games are Saturday’s, but as a mom who just loves to get her kids out and moving, I can’t help but gather us together and head out.  This past weekend was no exception.  The weather here in California is still amazing {hoping for a great winter as we need the rain}, and the wine country is pretty hot these days as we are into the “Indian Summer” months….  Read More…

That’s It We Are Having Office Hours

Why is it that as we near the end of a school year, things seem to get a bit more hectic? I am filling out more forms, signing more permission slips, sending in more money for something, seeing more projects that need to be completed, scheduling more appointments. That is just school, let’s not leave out sports activities. Baseball teams {yes plural} double the uniforms {keeping them organized with the right socks, belts and pants} double the practice, double the scheduling. Packing snacks, lunches, remembering to double pack for back to back activities, remembering what time to be where and where to be when. Birthday parties, graduation parties, planning, scheduling, making sure to coordinate dates to not overlap with someone else, buying gifts.  Gifts for the graduates, gifts for our graduate, gifts for the special teacher.  Graduation?  Oh yeah, that would be us.  The outfit, must stick to the dress…  Read More…

Because We Are Moms

From the moment they arrive in this world, we take on an entire new set of feelings and emotions.  We become instantly protective, our hearts grow bigger, our souls fall in love.  We are more intuitive, we are awakened and aware.  We become more emotional than we were.  We are able to grow instinct like we have never had before.  We hear and see everything differently.  We become caretakers, we are more watchful, we are sensitive to everything around us.  We are about to embark on to the most amazing, confusing, stressful and wonderful journey of our lives.   We become Moms ♥ There are no instruction books for this job that has all of the sudden fallen onto us.  There are no guidelines, there are no rules, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason.  We just figure it out.  We go with the flow, we learn as we go. …  Read More…
