San Francisco and “The Color Run”… Amazing

This past weekend our daughter and I attended The Color Run in San Francisco and let me start by saying, if you have never done one, you MUST! This was the second time we have done a run with color and it is such a blast.  This time we scheduled ourselves for the afternoon run and it was held at Candlestick Park {which will be gone soon as they are going to destroy it this year}.  We did not have to get up at the crack of dawn to drive in and get settled, that was a plus.  The weather was perfect {we have been having amazing weather here in California lately, although we do need some more rain}, I have to be honest, I was loving the upper 70’s weather and almost no wind.  We packed up plenty of water, bananas, bagels and made sure to sunscreen ourselves.  Oh…  Read More…

Mom To The Rescue

It was Tuesday night when Faith came into our room and said “Mom, I need the computer after school tomorrow”, “are you going to be working on it”?  That sentence right there, that was it.  I placed my magazine down and my hot tea, removed my glasses and knew we had a “project” coming.  As a parent we have the special “mommy senses”, the one’s that tell our guts that something is up or we know when the kids are holding back on something.  In fact, we should have special capes we put on for each time we are to jump into action.  This would require the “Project Cape” {gulp} and I was to get ready. I continued to listen to our princess as she began to explain the assignment.  I asked questions, she rolled her eyes.  I asked more questions, she did the “chill  mom”, “it’s all good” lecture. …  Read More…

Last I Checked This Wasn’t A Diner

I think I have officially spoiled my children {and possibly husband}.  Do I get up every morning and make breakfast and pack lunches?  I do.  Do I mind?  I don’t.  Is it just part of being a mom.  After all, isn’t it listed in the mommy manual as just one of the many jobs we have? So when did me preparing meals, turn into me actually serving them?  I know I am in the kitchen and I see the food cooking, the house is filled with aromas of food.  I am pouring juice, pulling out place mats, grabbing napkins, utensils and at the same time I am making  my under the breath heavy sigh {the one that is just loud enough to get their attention} the one that has them look over at me from the table, the one that pulls their attention from the Disney Channel {yes they still…  Read More…

The Morning Mom

This morning had me thinking {well I often think of this} but today I actually sat and took it in and decided to write it. Standing in the kitchen looking down the hallway to the front door, I hear us all say the words we say every morning…the “goodbyes” and “I love yous”, “have a great day”, while watching the backpacks disappear from site and my hubby and I smiling at one another while me telling him to “drive safe”.  The door shuts, they are gone. Okay we all do this right, the family morning routine? Let’s go back.  The alarm goes off while it is still dark out because I need to get myself up first and start the house.  I am a morning person, so being the “morning mom” is easy for me.  The heat, to add just enough warmth for the family so when they rise from…  Read More…

Christmas Dinner Wine Country Style

The new year is already here and I am pretty behind on my posts.  I have literally taken time over the holiday break to play with the kids, make food, enjoy family, take many pictures, enjoy some “bubbles”, remove the tree, pack up the holiday “stuff”, watch movies, take naps, snuggle up with my hubby and fit in my Pure Barre classes.  But here we are, January 1st and I am re-capping our Christmas Dinner. This year we kept it very mellow and small.  Christmas Eve was a just the four of us, our oldest was not coming home this year {our first year without him} as he made a grown up decision to stay in Santa Barbara and work for that extra “holiday” money.  So that left my hubby and Noah and Faith to cozy up with our annual movie watching {A Charlie Brown Christmas} and they were kind…  Read More…

Our Perfect Kind of Tree

Every year at the same time, we get our tree.  My hubby’s birthday falls after the first week of December and we have our family ritual.  This is our scheduled time each year that we calendar and keep {sort of like an appointment} only this is much more fun, this is more like a family date night. As usual we head out on a weekend and we love going to the tree lot in the evening {we started a bit earlier this year}.  The day is planned out, we make the space, move furniture out of the way and clear the path around and near the door {in hopes to make a smooth entrance once we arrive home}.  We bake some slice and bakes {cookies} they can’t be homemade, that would be an epic fail and we make sure the hot cocoa and marsh mellows are stocked and ready to…  Read More…

Family Weekend, College Football and Hugh Grant Dancing

We had such a nice Thanksgiving and by Saturday, I found myself just sort of wiped out.  We still had our son visiting from Santa Barbara and while I was catching up on laundry and cleaning, my hubby and the three kids were able to go out and throw the football around and shoot some hoops.  It wasn’t until they returned home to watch some college football games {wow way to end a game Auburn} that I decided to go through the DVD drawer and pick some faves and head upstairs to snuggle in watch some movies. Nothing like a hot cup of tea for me and hot chocolate for Miss Faith, a big bowl of popcorn {we make ours on the stove, the old school way in a large pot} and some cozy blankets.  Time to start the movies…which one, which one? In no particular order, I have listed…  Read More…

Wine Country Thanksgiving

Oh my goodness what a long week it has been.  The kids were out of school since last Monday and our oldest headed home for a long {x-tra long} weekend.  Doesn’t it seem that we need a day or two for us to rest after a holiday weekend?  As usual, this was my holiday to cook for family.  I do Thanksgiving every year and it is always a different menu.  This year I must give kudos to Holiday Entertaining magazine from Bon Appetit and Gourmet for the amazing recipes I used. It was business as usual for my preparation.  About two weeks before Thanksgiving, I research magazine after magazine and pull from each and every one.  I look for something new and unique or something that I can add my own twist to {depending on how creative I want to get, OR how tired I am}.  No fancy twists this…  Read More…

Those Moments…

One of my most fave moments in a day are the one’s when my children are being with themselves.   You know, that quiet time when the electronics are off, the t.v. is off, the bickering stops and it is just peaceful.  The house may not be together, the laundry is piled up either dirty waiting to be washed or clean and waiting to be put away, dishes are in the sink waiting for the transition to the machine, maybe the floors need cleaning.  But I have learned to stop and enjoy and embrace these moments. The house will be waiting for me, my children are growing fast every day.   We can live and enjoy life with what we have and know that family time is much more valuable than a new IPhone or Playstation. This day was one of those days.  Faith just creating {again} what was she creating?  A…  Read More…

Sadness and Loss….When Does It Stop

This is not a normal post for me, but since dealing with loss of family more than once in the past 6 weeks, I have been feeling overwhelmed.  Of course losing family is a sadness and whether we are expecting it or not, does not seem to matter.   Grieving is done in so many different ways {there is no right or wrong way} just our own way.  So what happens with loss in family? What goes on in each others minds?  How does each one take on their day? As a Christian women I am a firm believer in the fact that our loved ones are watching over us and here with us. I believe that they are in the most peaceful and beautiful place we can’t even fully imagine.  What is really weighing on me is the fact that each time I listen to a sermon at a funeral/service,…  Read More…
