Finding The Right Christmas Tree

Christmas 2015 is here and one of my  favorite family traditions is getting bundled up and heading to the tree lot.  We used to do the tree farm until the kids started complaining about the long drive and hours of hiking around until we I found just the right tree.  So the tree lot it is.  Normally we head out in the evenings, or we wait until the husband’s birthday {next week}, but this past weekend had the family feeling excited and too antsy to wait. The “adventure” is pretty typical and almost predictable. I meander around the lot, ogling at all the trees and inhaling in the fresh scents.  I imagine being in the midst of some forest in Lake Tahoe, snow is falling and it is bitter cold.  I then open my eyes and see the gravel under my feet and watch the truck come through with another…  Read More…

When Mom Gets the Flu

Well I was on a roll last week, the weather here in Northern California has been amazing.  Perfect for running, walking.  I have been killing it in my Pure Barre classes and sticking to a great routine.  That’s it right there, ROUTINE … I knew things were going to well. Miss Faith arrives home from school not feeling well.  Great, let’s get this taken care of quickly, let’s nip this in the bud.  Rest, rest soup, Ginger Ale and Tylenol.  We got this.  Noooo, we don’t.  Four days later, things are not looking up.  A visit to the doctor some antibiotics and more rest.  Seven days of sleeping and resting.  Okay moms, we know the drill, this is NOT our first rodeo showdown with a nasty bug.  Heck no.  We just need to  keep the house clean and as germ free as possible.  All the while telling ourselves we are…  Read More…

That’s It We Are Having Office Hours

Why is it that as we near the end of a school year, things seem to get a bit more hectic? I am filling out more forms, signing more permission slips, sending in more money for something, seeing more projects that need to be completed, scheduling more appointments. That is just school, let’s not leave out sports activities. Baseball teams {yes plural} double the uniforms {keeping them organized with the right socks, belts and pants} double the practice, double the scheduling. Packing snacks, lunches, remembering to double pack for back to back activities, remembering what time to be where and where to be when. Birthday parties, graduation parties, planning, scheduling, making sure to coordinate dates to not overlap with someone else, buying gifts.  Gifts for the graduates, gifts for our graduate, gifts for the special teacher.  Graduation?  Oh yeah, that would be us.  The outfit, must stick to the dress…  Read More…

Mom To The Rescue

It was Tuesday night when Faith came into our room and said “Mom, I need the computer after school tomorrow”, “are you going to be working on it”?  That sentence right there, that was it.  I placed my magazine down and my hot tea, removed my glasses and knew we had a “project” coming.  As a parent we have the special “mommy senses”, the one’s that tell our guts that something is up or we know when the kids are holding back on something.  In fact, we should have special capes we put on for each time we are to jump into action.  This would require the “Project Cape” {gulp} and I was to get ready. I continued to listen to our princess as she began to explain the assignment.  I asked questions, she rolled her eyes.  I asked more questions, she did the “chill  mom”, “it’s all good” lecture. …  Read More…

Another Summer Done and Off To School…

I am not sure if I will ever get used to watching the kids head off to school the first day.  Sure we {parents} go through the summer highs and lows.  First we are super jazzed “Yay summer vacation is here”, lot’s to do, places to go, no schedules, stay up late, sleep in, be lazy, basically just live the few months carefree.  Then it hits, summer is winding down and the kids start getting antsy, they get bored, they start bickering.  We start to pull our hair out, re-think our game plan, start crossing off days on our own calendars for the countdown to “peace and quiet”.  Please tell me I am not the ONLY parent thinking this! Nor am I a bad parent, just one who loves some “me” time. I can’t even count how many games of Sorry, Clue or cards I have played the last two…  Read More…

Did You Say “Pack My Bags”?…..

Well it’s official, summer is here and ours is starting off with quite the surprise.  It amazes me how my hubby works so hard and so much for our family, that when he is given a bonus from his boss, he makes it about surprising me {as if I am the one who has earned it}.  Last week when arriving home from work with a bottle of bubbly, some of my fave white roses and a card, I really was stumped as I knew we had not been celebrating anything.  Sure he loves bringing home fresh flowers for the house every so often, but this was different {and him telling me to wait to open the card and “be quiet” as to not to get too excited} had me really wondering. Okay, I will play along.  Hours later after the kids were settled, it was time and I just remember…  Read More…

And It All Begins…Summer, Hairpulling {my own} and We Made Sherbet

Well it has started, we have been out of school for what 3 days and I am already having to create “projects” for Noah and Faith. You know, most of us would think as the kids get older things get easier…LOL, right!  I have found myself playing “referee“, board game queen, activities director, day-trip planner, and waitress every summer. NO, it does not get easier {unless you are the parent who just let’s the play station and IPad entertain your kids}.  Not in this house, not me, nope!  Sure they have their allotted time with the electronics, but here’s the deal…I am a stay at home mom {inspiring blogger} Fitnessmomwinecountry creator {hoping to build on my Wellness Weekends} and since I am so supported by my AMAZING hubby, I can’t complain. I loved seeing that Faith had read through some of my magazines over the weekend and from what I…  Read More…

Moms And The Journey

Mother’s Day is here and it is a bittersweet day.  The day to really reflect on our journey as moms.  Maybe reflect on our childhood and our mothers. Take a look at our relationships with our moms or the relationships we have with our own children.  This is a day that I embrace and look forward to on one hand as I get to wake with my kids {as everyday, only today the energy in the house is somewhat giddy and exciting}  but on the other hand, I am filled with sadness and loss from my own relationship with my mother. Of course everyday is a gift that I am able to spend with my children.  I am the stay home mom, the keeper of the home, the queen of laundry,  the task master and activities director.  This day though has a special “sparkle” to it.  It just screams happiness,…  Read More…

Chocolate Banana Bites

So with Spring in full mode and the end of the school year approaching quickly {May 30th for us}, I have been brainstorming and searching around for some super quick, healthy and fun snacks and treat for the kids {okay, who I am I kidding, myself also}.  I happen to stumble upon this great banana treat from Pop Sugar and thought two things…..WOW, those look so pretty and how cool what a great idea.  Well we have bananas in the house ALL the time and are adding them to smoothies, packing them in the backpack for a hike, just grabbing them for a quick snack, so why not try these cute creations? I followed the recipe given in the Pop Sugar link, with a few changes and here is as follows: 5 medium ripe bananas 1 tbsp. all natural creamy peanut butter 2 oz. nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt My version Fage…  Read More…
