The Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon is A Must Run

About two weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to run the Napa to Sonoma Wine CountryHalf Marathon and I could not have been more excited.  This race has been on my wish list for a few years and being invited as a blogger/runner was a huge thrill and honor for me.  Before I get into my own personal recap and experience, let me start by saying that Destination Races put together a MOST amazing weekend race event and holds nothing back.  I was very impressed with every detail {although I was not able to attend the pre-race dinner or the morning yoga because of other obligations} I enjoyed the perks of the VIP package. Let’s just start with Friday night.  A very intimate Welcome Reception was held at Cuvasion Winery which is the start place of the race.  The evening had wine, food samples and speeches from the race…  Read More…

Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon

Running season is upon us and I  love it.  I have a bucket list of races {half marathons} I am wanting to get done this year one of them was  is the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon.  For the most obvious reason, the race ends right here in Sonoma on the plaza literally just blocks away from our house.  This is one of those races that opens for registration and instantly sells out, so getting myself a spot has been pretty much impossible and I just assumed it might never happen for me.  Someone in the race heavens must have been listening to me, I was contacted by Destination Races and invited to run this particular half marathon.  I had to pinch myself and read the email again {insert happy dance}. I don’t have much time to get ready since race day is July 19th.  However, I am just two…  Read More…

Getting Away In Healdsburg

We are smack in the middle of summer and I don’t know about you, but this has been all about keeping busy right near our own home.  With baseball season going long this year and Noah starting football camp 4 weeks ago, it made it a bit difficult to get away.  Okay, we could have if we wanted to, but being in the playoffs was a big deal for us and Noah is starting is Freshman year this August and football camp is key {especially as a newbie}.  So, this means making the best of what is near by. That brings us to our most current get a way from home.  We went to visit Healdsburg, CA.  If you are not familiar with the area, it is about an hour and half north of Sonoma and just as quaint.  There is shopping, art galleries, food, bakeries, coffee and the Oakville…  Read More…

Running Thoughts and Wedgies

Another “Runner’s Thoughts”  blog post.  Why? Well because when I did this a few weeks ago, it seemed to have been a hit and was fun.  I just laid it all out there and shared what went through my head while running.  If you have been so kind enough to follow and read my ramblings, I must thank you ♥.  If you have been following along with me via facebook, twitter and here, then you know that I have been getting myself {mind and body} ready for my very first half marathon. I know, I know.  I have gotten advice and wisdom from MANY of you wonderful runners out there and it seems that the most popular of advice is to “just have fun” and “don’t worry about your time”.  Well, if you knew me personally, then you would know that I am goal setter and goal getter.  I raise…  Read More…

Bringing The Color Run To Our School

Last Friday was our first jog-a-thon for the Adele Harrison middle school here in Sonoma.  This  was an event that was the brain child of one of our AMAZING parents {Eileen}.  She worked to pull together volunteers, contacted some local markets for sponsorships, created letters, etc.  If you have ever been a parent volunteer in your child’s school, you get the idea. Eileen had contacted me asking if I would be willing to hop on board with this event, knowing it was right up my alley.  She had wanted to create a Color Run for the kids and knowing that I have had plenty of experience with color runs, I was just the gal. I could not wait to get a hold of my contacts at The Color Run and start conversation.  It did not take long for them to want to reply and jump in on doing anything and…  Read More…

Pure Barre and The Shake

Another week has passed and another Pure Barre  update on my “journey”.  If you have seen or read anything about Pure Barre, you know that the “Shake” is a very common {and important}  word used amongst Barre goers.  No, I am not talking about stepping up to the front desk and ordering some sort of smoothie/shake.  I am talking about the uncontrollable, vibrating motion of our legs as we are at standing at the Barre.  No need to panic or be embarrassed of the Shake, in fact you are supposed to be shaking.  I look around the room all the time and see women doing the same thing {yes you can see each other shake, because it is such an intense tremble}.  Thighs, calves and even the booty depending on the position we are in. Okay, I am deep into it at this point and my head is usually all…  Read More…

Sonoma Has A New Barre

So it looks like we Sonoma has its very own Pure Barre Studio.  What does this mean?  Well for starters, we are catching up with the trend.  I know that I personally am super jazzed because I have always wanted to know just what the buzz was all about, since I have read and followed so many fitness gals from all over who seem to love this particular workout.  Before I even go on, I have a confession to make, I really never knew exactly how this was pronounced, so upon meeting Meg {the studio’s owner}, I had to right away just come out and ask, “is it Pure {Bar-Ray} or is it Pure {Bar}.  The latter is the appropriate. Okay we have that out of the way. Back to the beginning.  When I had heard the doors were opened to the new studio, I could not wait to go…  Read More…

Back To Boot Camp and I Was Grumpy…

Well we are back from “recovery” week and starting a new session at boot camp.  Wait, I have to be honest I did NOT get to class Monday because, well because I was a lazy pansy and just did not do it.  Now for the present day {Tuesday} the class time was 5:30 a.m. and as I headed to bed Monday night I was just giddy with joy that I was going back and kicking ass bootie.  All was good until 4:45 a.m when it happened, the alarm clock.  Ughh, the alarm clock!  NO, no, no….take me back to recovery week.  Momma does NOT want to get up and move.   I should have known by my mood when I hit the button that I was headed out for one grumpy journey. I did not lay my workout clothes out the night before, so this made me work in the…  Read More…

Harvest Is Here and It Smells Wonderful…

Fall is in the air and this means so many things to us.  Living here in the Wine Country it definitely means that “harvest” is coming and the grapes and vines are amazing and beautiful.  The colors, the smells, the celebrations that happen all over the Napa/Sonoma county in the next month are something to be seen and experienced.  The ever-popular Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival is just one of many events to check out. Today’s walk was just blocks from my home.  The Sebastiani vineyards.  I am so lucky and blessed to have some most beautiful areas for running or walking.  Whether the sun is shining or there is a drizzle in the air, I love living the Sonoma life. *Have you visited Sonoma? Have you been to the Napa Valley? Do you have a favorite varietal/wine?
